Anchor General Insurance Review (2025)

Anchor General provides insurance to high-risk drivers, but it doesn't offer many other amenities. For instance, you can't request a quote or file a claim through the company website. Anchor General also doesn't provide insurance throughout the United States, so drivers outside of , Arizona, and Texas will need to shop online for insurance coverage.

Just the Basics

  • Anchor General only provides car insurance in three states
  • You can’t file an Anchor General insurance claim online
  • You can lower your rates by driving safely

High-risk drivers can have a difficult time shopping for insurance. Many insurance companies will flat-out refuse to provide insurance coverage to some high-risk drivers, but that’s where Anchor General comes in. If you have a checkered driving history or a poor credit score, Anchor General may be able to help you get the coverage you need to get back out on the road.

Keep reading this car insurance guide to learn more about Anchor General and how you can lower your car insurance rates.

What is Anchor General?

Founded in 1987, Anchor General Insurance Company provides non-standard car insurance to drivers located in these three states:

Since Anchor General focuses on providing non-standard insurance policies, high-risk drivers are more likely to seek this company’s services. The Anchor General website is sparse, and while no Anchor General Insurance address is shared, you can call the customer service line during the week at 800-542-6246. You can also send in a note via the website’s email form if you want more information.

Thankfully, finding the phone number for the Anchor General insurance claims department is relatively simple. If you need to file a claim, you can call the number listed above Monday-Friday during regular business hours. Although there is no mobile app for this company, you can use your Anchor General login information to view your policy online or make an online payment. However, it is important to note that you can’t file a claim online.

You’ll need to reach out directly to the company to find out what you may pay for an Anchor General insurance policy because sample rate information isn’t made available online. Since Anchor General provides non-standard insurance policies, you can expect the rates to be a bit higher, but you can take steps to lower your rates.

If you have a low credit score, increasing it can help you secure lower rates over time. Insurance companies use your credit score as a tool to evaluate your risk. The higher your score, the lower your rates could become. You can also work to improve your driving habits.

Following safe driving practices can help you improve your driving history and prove to insurance companies that you are a low-risk driver who deserves lower rates. Some of these practices include not using your cell phone while operating your vehicle and not running through red lights.

It’s important to know an insurance company’s financial rating because it lets consumers know if the company has the reserves to pay out any vehicle insurance claims that have been filed.

What You Need to Know about Anchor General Insurance

SCAMMERS

NEW THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM!!! First, they charged me twice in one month, and made some excuse about it having been two weeks into the month, but why is two weeks full price? (It’s so you won’t notice you are getting double-charged for the first month and choose them over a competitor, a slick & dirty move) Why didn’t you clarify this stipulation BEFORE the purchase!? THEN they removed my auto-pay option (I got this through the Jerry app!!!...

THEN they removed my auto-pay option (I got this through the Jerry app!!!) and added additional endorsements, doubling my rate!!!!! THIS COMPANY IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY. I called customer service about this issue and they transferred me six times and hung up on me twice! I’m just glad that I’m finding out right now, and not when it really counts. Anchor General has shown their true colors.

Good luck if you are in a financial bind, they'll cancel your policy ASAP and will ask for a large deposit to reinstate.

WORST CAR INSURANCE EVER!

The worst insurance company EVER! I had a hit and run incident with my car and when I filed a claim they took forever to get back to me. The worst insurance company EVER! I had a hit and run incident with my car and when I filed a claim they took forever to get back to me. When I was finally issued an agent/adjuster to help me out, it took them two full weeks to come up with the lowest possible estimate. It was outrageous the amount they were trying to give me. I went to a couple of body shops and the quote given to me was wayyy more than what they had estimated, BY ALOT. The adjuster (P&C appraisal) is equally unproficient and incompetent., very hard to get an answer from. All departments are very slow and will not get your claim solved in my experience . I had to do everyone's job myself and had to track quotes, send them to the adjuster and be communicate the information to the insurance. Which was something no one paying overly priced full coverage insurance should be doing. They take too long to respond and will come up with a million excuses of why not to help YOU as their customer. They are not there when you really need them as an insurance. They also expected me to find a car rental of $12/hr in California. No where in California do they let you rent a car for $12. Minimum is $21-32. I'm just glad it wasn't a bigger accident as I am sure they wouldn't have helped in the slightest. For a company charging the same as other top competitors I would advise you to save the frustration and anger of having to deal with them and find yourself a better insurance. READ your Policy!

Amazing Customer Support team

I had Anchor General while living in California and thought they were honestly a great value given the price. It was used as a bare minimum to follow state regulations and it served its purpose. I had Anchor General while living in California and thought they were honestly a great value given the price. It was used as a bare minimum to follow state regulations and it served its purpose. That is not why I am giving it 5 stars though. That reason is because of their customer service team. Not just a customer service team, but one that works quickly, with compassion, and most of all, are capable of actually solving your issue without having to be transferred 10 times to only spend hours on the phone with no actual resolution, if not, further from one. Long story short, I had a billing mishap, purely created on my own,, but was able to get it handled, rectified, and a resolution met within minutes on the phone and through email. To my surprise, when I called, the call was almost immediately picked up my a REAL PERSON. A sort of convenience that can be overlooked in this day and age. I explained my scenario and without much effort, was given clear and detailed directions on what to do, and how to do it. I sent over the requested information, and almost immediately was replied to, asked to do one more tiny thing, and by the morning, I was getting a phone call that everything had been taken care of. It reminds me that there are reasons these small businesses need customers, and more so, that us customers need companies that have service teams like this one does. Shout out to people like [REDACTED NAME] who helped me out immensely. Also, to their management team, who is confident enough in their staff and give the power to their customer service team, to efficiently, and positively, resolve customer concerns. I certainly appreciate the way Anchor General was able to do so for me.
