Encompass Car Insurance

Average Monthly Rate For Good Drivers

A.M. Best Rating:

A+

Complaint Level:

Low

Just the Basics

  • Encompass offers three levels of coverage, with optional add-ons such as GAP coverage and new car replacement
  • It has excellent ratings regarding rates and customer service, with A.M. Best giving Encompass Insurance an A+ rating
  • Encompass Insurance coverage is available in 38 states and Washington, D.C., with safe driver, defensive driver, and good student discounts, among others

When you are shopping for car insurance, you want the best coverage at affordable rates. Encompass car insurance is a great option if you prefer to file claims with a real person who can discuss your needs and answer your questions instead of relying solely on digital means.

Along with information on average policy rates and included coverage, there are other factors to consider when selecting the best auto insurance company. Is this auto insurance company legitimate? Who is the owner of the company? What types of coverage are available? These are all important questions to ask, and we cover the answers in this detailed Encompass Insurance review.

What is Encompass car insurance coverage?

Encompass Insurance was originally founded in 1897. It was later purchased and renamed by Allstate in 1999 and developed into the insurance company it is today. Encompass is based in Northbrook, Illinois.

The level of auto insurance coverage you choose depends upon your state’s requirement and your individual preferences and financial situation. You can choose from three levels of insurance coverage with Encompass:

  • Special: offers basic coverage with the option to add on new car replacement, GAP coverage, or coverage on electronic equipment
  • Deluxe: a mid-level policy that includes electronic equipment coverage. You can opt to add GAP coverage, new car replacement, or auto trip interruption
  • Elite: includes the most comprehensive coverage. You get unlimited accident forgiveness along with all the benefits included in the other policies. GAP coverage and new car replacement are still considered add-ons and cost extra

Liability coverage is the minimum required in most states and covers injuries and damages sustained to another party’s vehicle when you are at fault. Collision insurance covers the cost of repairs to your vehicle. Comprehensive insurance covers damages that occur due to an act of nature, such as a fallen tree branch, animal damage, or theft.

Liability may not offer enough coverage to protect you financially. You can discuss the amount of accident coverage and other services that you need with an agent to find the best policy for you.

What auto insurance discounts are available?

Opportunities to save money on car insurance rates are important to customers. Encompass Insurance company stands out by offering quite a few discounts. Here is a list of what you may be able to qualify for:

  • Safe driver. Applied for having no accident claims in the past 12 months
  • Encompass easy pay. Applied for using the auto-pay feature
  • New car. Applied for purchasing a brand new car with no previous owners
  • Defensive driver. Applied for completing an approved defensive driving class successfully
  • Homeowner. Applied for owning a home, even if you only carry an auto insurance policy
  • Anti-theft. Applied for having approved theft prevention devices on your car
  • Good student. Applied for maintaining a B average or 3.0 GPA
  • Future effective date. Applied for purchasing a policy that goes into effect seven or more days from the issue date
  • Pay in full. Applied for paying your total policy premium in one payment

With an extensive range of available discounts, you have a good chance of qualifying for one or more and saving money on your rates.

What are the ratings for Encompass Insurance?

Determining your auto insurance company’s reputation and financial stability is important before you purchase a policy. Reading what current and previous customers have to say can give you a good indication of how your experience with the company will be. Encompass Insurance reviews left by customers generally report that rates are affordable and the customer service is excellent.

The Better Business Bureau gave Encompass an A+ rating, although several customer reviews gave a poorer score, citing issues with payments and service.

A.M. Best also rated Encompass Insurance as A+. This is a superior rating for financial stability and excellent customer service.

The NAIC data shows that Encompass received a higher number of complaints than other similar companies. It was given a 0.42 rating, which is below average. Ratings are based upon several factors, including pricing, service, and coverage.

Finally, J.D. Power currently has no data specifically about Encompass, but it does score its parent company. Allstate scored an 803, just shy of making the top 10 list of companies.

What states does Encompass offer coverage in?

  • Alaska
  • Florida

How do you file a car insurance claim with Encompass?

If you need to file a claim on your auto insurance policy, you only have one option. All claims must be reported by calling the Encompass claims phone number and speaking with an agent.

This human touch can be either positive or negative, depending upon your preferences. Some may find the connection with a real person easier to ensure that all details are covered and concerns addressed. However, the lack of flexibility in contact options could be a problem for those who prefer a digital approach.

When you call to report a claim, have the following information available:

  • Personal details
  • Your auto policy number
  • Contact information for yourself and any other parties involved in the incident
  • The location and time of the incident, as well as information about how it occurred
  • Details about any injuries and medical documentation
  • Pictures for proof of the damage and determining responsibility
  • Policy report if available

Keeping this information nearby and ready to submit helps speed along your insurance claim. Once you have reported the claim, a claims specialist follows up with you. An agent is assigned to evaluate the damage and prepare an estimate on the cost of repairs. After this information and documentation have been given to you, you can review the details and complete the claim to receive payment.

Does Encompass offer any other types of insurance?

Encompass offers more than just auto insurance. You can also purchase coverage for the following:

  • Boat insurance
  • Watercraft insurance
  • Motorcycle insurance
  • RV insurance
  • Condo insurance
  • Renters insurance
  • Earthquake insurance
  • Umbrella insurance
  • Identify theft insurance

Ask about options to bundle more than one type of insurance together.

Final Thoughts About Encompass Insurance

Encompass Insurance is available in 38 states and Washington, D.C. You have the option to select anything from a basic policy to full collision and comprehensive coverage. A variety of add-ons offer additional coverage for a fee.

With Encompass, you can potentially qualify for several discounts to reduce your rate. Claims reporting and customer service are conducted via phone call, although Encompass also has an app for convenient roadside assistance. This company has affordable rates and varied covered options, and receives generally good customer ratings for service and efficient claims processing.

Within a month I have made phone contact on the first with [REDACTED NAME] ( who I am guessing is no longer with the company ) and finally to rude rep name [REDACTED NAME]. I have really been patient and tried to explain to him we live near salt water and it also took up to a almost a week before I could even pick up my police report and also I wasn’t exactly sure when my car got side swipe because I was out of town.

Encompass is awful. I cancelled my coverage with them!

I found encompass to be awful. Sure, always friendly when there were no problems. But I had a vehicle that turned out to be a total loss and boy did they try to use up time and money to avoid that conclusion. I had rep. who would not call me back when she said she would and have no doubt that she was a pawn following directives from elsewhere. Only when the state and my broker got involved did they send me a check for the full vehicle value. And ...

I had rep. who would not call me back when she said she would and have no doubt that she was a pawn following directives from elsewhere. Only when the state and my broker got involved did they send me a check for the full vehicle value. And in the meantime it was their obvious attempt to saddle me with as much billing for a rental vehicle (above and beyond what they would provide) such that I would cave. Awful awful awful. The POINT of an insurance company is not to make money. The POINT is to take care of your customers and thus, by doing, earn income.

We have our house car and umbrella policy that was in place In the beginning they were I felt like was a good insurance company but as the time is gone by our prices have gone up more and more and now denied after my husband’s truck was hit hit and run. So if I were you I would think twice about ever going through encompass I noticed the rates have gone down from a five to a three there must be a reason for that. I’ve never felt like such a criminal in all my life. I do not recommend this company I will be leaving this company and never looking back. I just don’t wanna see anyone else put that long into an insurance company and them not help you after you’ve been a loyal customer to them that’s gratitude.

They refused to reinstall my insurance but then decided to charge me $750 for the non coverage and send me to collections to be harassed constantly by a collections agency. Then a couple of emails ago, they sent me a marketing email. So - guess what - they had my email address, which they denied having before. Ever since, they send me multiple letters. They are TERRIBLE.

Not for high end cars.

If you have a luxury vehicle and expect to be able to chose to use your dealer for repairs. This is not the insurance company for you. They have limits on what they are willing to pay for service and will not even pay the bill on your behalf. They expect you to pay out of packet. And I don’t mean your deductible. Which fair insurance practices. They can not even guarantee you will be reimbursed for your claim. Telling your clients you can choos...

Telling your clients you can choose to take your vehicle anywhere you like, is untrue if you make impossible to work with someone other then the insurances preferred service departments. If I pay for a high end car I expect high end technicians and high end parts. Not discounted parts and discounted services departments. I’m a firm believer of you get what you pay for. I will be changing providers to a more reliable/ reputable insurance company

Can't Reach Anyone

I can never get a hold of anyone. I needed to update my card info and sent an email to the email address provided two weeks ago and no response. Is this even a real company?? I can't make a profile online to make payments or manage my account. Can't find any social media for them. It looks a lot like fraud. The prices are good but why is it so hard to reach an actual person? I am going to start looking for someone else.
