What are the point values of traffic violations in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a slightly different point system that most states. While the point system still tracks your traffic violations, the system is called “surchargeable events” and they directly affect your insurance. Receiving a number of surchargeable violations can result in a license suspension. Therefore, the points don’t affect your chance of suspension so much as they affect your insurance prices. Some violations and their point values are:
• DUI – 5 points
• Major at-fault accident – 4 points
• Speeding – 2 points
