What is the speed limit on unmarked roads in New Mexico?

You should always check the speed limit whenever you can. However, for one reason or another, some areas don’t have properly posted speed limits. In this situation, you’ll need to default to the standard maximum speed allowed by law in New Mexico. The maximum speeds are:
• Within school zones – 15 mph
• In business or residential areas – 30 mph
• Public highways – 55 mph
• Rural interstate highways – 75 mph

Keep in mind that road or weather conditions may dictate that you slow down. Failure to do so could result in a speeding ticket, regardless of what the maximum speed was.
