What happens if I don’t have car insurance in Vermont?

If you are uninsured in Vermont, you’ll be fined and have two points added to your driver’s license. If you don’t have proof of insurance, you have 15 days to provide the proof or suffer the above consequence. You can lose your license if you are uninsured and involved in any of the following:
• Crash, even if not at-fault
• DUI
• Driving or taking another’s vehicle without permission
• Driving with a license that is suspended, revoked, or refused
• Driving a vehicle in such a way as to cause the death of another person
• Leaving the scene of a crash
