What kind of life changes warrant telling my insurance company?
People’s lives are changing all the time and it can be difficult to remember who needs to know. However, your life changes can have an impact on your insurance. Failure to notify your insurance company can result in a cancellation of your policy. You should always notify your insurance company if you:
• Get a new car – the car you own is part of what sets the rates
• Buy a new home – your address is another big factor in your premium calculation
• New driver – anytime another person in your home gets a license, your insurance company needs to know
• Change jobs – if you live closer to home, you may see a savings
• Spouse – marriage means you get cheaper insurance, and they probably have a license, so the company needs to know
• Have kids – some insurance companies offer discounts to folks when they have a kid because studies have shown that parents are typically safer drivers
