With the electrification of the World’s autos taking place around every corner, Ford wasn’t about to be left behind without their own EV at the Canadian International Auto Show. While they showed the Focus Electric in Detroit, this was the first time the car was shown in Canada.
The new Focus has been a critical hit around the globe and the electric version shares the same platform as the gasoline version. One of the biggest concerns many consumers have about electric cars is the limited range. Ford claims that the Focus Electric will not force consumers to change their lifestyle.
Like other electrics, the Focus will charge from a 240v charging station. Ford says the Focus will take on a full charge in half the time of the Nissan Versa. If that is true, Ford has a chance of making the electric car more viable for more mainstream buyers.
There is one quote from Ford that I just don’t understand though:
“It will offer a mile-per-gallon equivalent better than Chevrolet Volt and competitive with other battery electric vehicles.”
How exactly does an electric only vehicle offer a mile per gallon equivalent? Does that mean that dollar for dollar, the electricity bill will equal the expense of buying gasoline? If so, the EV market is going to vanish very quickly once consumers see their first hydro bill!
