With 2010 behind us and 2011 roaring on in full gear, Kelly Blue Book, a leading provider of new and used car information, reveals some interesting information about the 20 most-researched cars of 2010, according to KBB site research.
In this struggling economy, most of these finds probably won’t surprise you; on the other hand, a few of them probably will.
Not surprisingly, the Honda Accord, Civic, and the Toyota Camry secured the top three spots for most-researched vehicle, underscoring America’s continued quest for affordability and reliability (though that last item may still be under debate following the mechanical issues and ensuing image problems Toyota faced during the past year).
But the top 20 list also included contenders like the Hyundai Sonata, which made a giant leap up 24 positions, from number 29 in 2009 to number five in 2010; the Ford Mustang, which moved up eight positions to number eight; the Toyota Sienna, up seven positions to number 11; and the Chevrolet Equinox up seven positions to number 13.
Other vehicles rated highly on the list year after year fell down a few notches this time, including the Toyota Corolla, which fell nine positions to number 14 and the Toyota Prius, which surprisingly dropped nine positions to number 17. In addition, despite its new design and seeming popularity, the Chevrolet Camaro was knocked down seven positions to number 19 for 2010.
“The site traffic on Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com clearly demonstrates which models are resonating with today’s new-car shoppers, especially when we examine the most-researched new vehicles of 2010,” said James Bell, executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com. “Hyundai’s home run Sonata was not only the darling of the industry this year, but also made a strong impression in the minds of new-car shoppers… In addition, two popular Toyota models, the Corolla and Prius, experienced drops on the list this year, likely due to a combination of lower fuel prices and reduced overall interest in compact and hybrid vehicles…”
