I live in New York and have my insurance with Allstate. I just learned my insurance will be non-renewed because I have too many tickets. I need my car. Where will I find insurance?

In New York, as in most states, you have three options for car insurance:

· Standard and preferred insurance: This insurance is for drivers who have fair to excellent driving records. They get the advantage of having better rates because as a group, they make fewer claims.

· Non-standard insurance: This is for drivers who have blemishes on their records. The rates for this tier of insurance are much higher than they are for a standard or preferred insured.

· Assigned risk: This is for drivers who cannot obtain car insurance via any of the traditional insurance markets which include standard and non-standard tiers. The state requires the insurance companies that do business in the state to insure their fair share of high-risk drivers.

In New York, the assigned risk plan is called The New York Automobile Insurance Plan. If you have exhausted all of the traditional market companies, you can apply for this at https://www.aipso.com/PlanSites/NewYork.aspx.
